Railway Museum in 8x10 (pt. 2)

And here is the other sheet of 8x10 film that I developed today, from that same visit to the Perris Railway museum. I really like this image (except for the light leak).

Railway Museum in 8x10 (pt. 1)

Here is an image taken with my 8x10 Willtravel camera. I still keep having what appears to be a light leak problem. This image was taken on May 25th, 2021, the day after I had turned in grades for my classes. I still can't believe I have finished with that task. Both these images are screen grabs since this site will not allow me to upload big files.

Mechanical props at the Railway Museum in Perris, CA

Here is a black and white shot taken with my Fuji GW690ii camera. I loved the way this one came out. It was from my first visit to the place just a few weeks ago. I was using Foma film once again, and I developed and scanned at home. The contrast was muddy, and I had to life up the shadow areas, but I like this result. I have a whole roll, but I want to only post this one for now.

Trip around the city called "Crown"

Here are a few photos from that same roll from the Minolta Autocord TLR. They are of a morning walk around the civic center.

Walking up Buena Vista boulevard, there is this empty lot. It is surrounded by apartment buildings and a few single homes. The city council is desperately wishing that it be filled in with more apartments. It is a fate that we can't resist.

This city hall is much to extravagant for a hard-scrabble city such as this one.

An empy lot where there used to be a mobile home park. It is next to a school facility. When the freeway was expanded as part of a plan to ease traffic woes, that mobile home facility was removed. I wonder what they will do with this lot. It is awaiting, I fear, another greedy developer who will cram it with apartments.

Another view of the lot that will not be empty for long.

Walking down Lincoln Avenue. I thought I would get a clearer view of the San Gabriel mountains with the orange filter I was using, but no-go. Need I add that this is not a beautiful city?

Visit to Pumpkin Rock in the spring of 2021

I am not sure when I went to Pumpkin Rock, but it might have been in either April or May. I call that spring. As I recall, it was an arduous hike up there, and I took the long route, mainly because I saw a few people taking the more direct route and I wanted to avoid them. I know, I know, maybe it wasn't called for, I was already vaccinated (back in February) and the CDC has already put out the guideline that we are fine to go without a mask and interact with people even in a closed setting, as long as they have been vaccinated, and if we are out in the open, it should be safe. I think in my case it is a personal psychological preference that dated to pre-pandemic times, and I am now happy to use the pretext of social distancing as a health guideline to justify my desire to stay away from others. :)

Well, here are a few black and white photos. I took them with the Minolta Autocord, and if I nail exposure, I am always amazed by the sharpness of the images. Very, very sharp. I used Foma 200 black and white film. I bought about 30 rolls of this film earlier this year, when they were holding a discount sale to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the company, and I whipped through the film in no time. Now, I have opted to buy HP5+, though, although I was satisfied with the Foma.

Here are a few images, developed and scanned today, Sunday, Memorial Day, May 31st, but taken weeks ago. No, no visits today, just the back neighbors karaokeying awake off-key and annoying the hell out of us.

Above, the George Ingalls Equestrian facility in Norco. I massively overexposed this negative by accident, the negative is completely dark to my eyes, but the scanner was able to salvage an image. I know, it was inattention. My Minolta Autocord has an aperture lever that moves much too freely, so instead of staying at f16, it must have moved all the way to f3.5. I remember noticing it on the spot and getting very irritated.

Climbing up the hill.

These are almost certainly Ricardo Braceda statues. They remind me of the others by this artist that I have seen at the Alta Vista gardens, as well as pictured at Galleta Meadows.

Beautiful views. I guess I managed to get something out of my difficult scramble up the hills.

Pumpkin Rock itself, but backlit. I would have to hike and photograph it in the evening to get the setting sun in the west to light it up frontally.

There is graphitti galore next to the Pumpkin Rock.

A 6x17 slide image from Descanso Gardens

Here is an image I took from my visit to Descanso Gardens in La CaƱada/Flintridge sometime in May. This is not the original, full-sized scanned, I've already proved that this blogsite will not allow me to upload gigantic files, so I have to do a screen grab. Here is one image:

Last batch of scans from this roll. This is slide film.

The LA Arboretum with slide film (Minolta Autocord) pt. 2

 Second batch of scans:

The LA Arboretum with slide film (Minolta Autocord) pt. 1

Sometime in May, I don't remember when, maybe the first or second week because I've been holding onto these slides for the past week and a half and it had to be in the first half, I returned to the LA Arboretum in Arcadia, CA. I am, as always, amazed at the quality of the lens on this TLR camera. Here are a few scans, I will upload in batches of four images.

Last batch from Exposition Park

This is the last batch of photos from Exposition Park in downtown Los Angeles, CA, taken on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend when, ordinarily, I would have been preparing to drive to UCLA to see the "Fiesta Mexicana" folklorico show put on annually on Memorial Day Sunday at Royce Hall. Well, it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, and we are still not out of danger. But I did get to visit a new place.

More from Exposition Park

More cellphone photos from my trip today, May 30th, to Exposition Park in downtown Los Angeles, CA.
