Leo Politi murals at Olvera Street

These murals are very beautiful. They were painted by an Italian-American by the name of Leo Politi, who was born and who died in Fresno, CA.

(1909-1996)

He left some iconic murals around several areas of Los Angeles, including Bunker Hill (I don't know where that is) and, of course, Olvera Street. He also published several children's books, and I have seen them and enjoy them thoroughly. The merchants of Olvera Street typically set up a table during their big events, such as the Blessing of the Animals, and sell postcards as well as these books to the public.

Now, right next to Olvera Street, as a matter of fact, an essential part of it, is what I believe was the former Mexican consulate office in Los Angeles. This building have many murals by the artist, and I love to look at them. They are a celebration of folk culture, in this case, of Latino folk culture. I am not sure the Mexican consulate is still located there.

We were all feeling like this goat this past election week. It seemed as if it would never be called for Biden. We were all feeling BAAAA...DDD. But ever since Biden was declared the winner yesterday, Nov. 7th, we are much better. Time to heal.

The kiosk and the nearby plaza where old people would be shaking along to cumbia music is cordoned off and closed.
